Dear users,
DriveExport is changing its licensing system. The core export functionalities remain unchanged. Only how the license is validated, is changing. All new license activations and renewals will be based on the new “License on file” approach. The new licensing system will not require connecting to our licensing servers anymore, allowing DriveExport to meet the requirements coming from our customers for running applications behind highly restrictive firewall rules. There are no actions required to you until your next scheduled license renewal.
The new versions of DriveExport will need a license file to work properly. It will be generated by the DriveExport team upon license activation or renewal and delivered by email to the requester. The license file is a small file, just a few KB, containing license information: allowed domain, limits, expiration date, etc. Despite the file having a plain text format, it contains a digital signature to avoid tampering. DriveExport 4.0.0 or higher is required to use the license file.
Summary of changes and upcoming dates:
- DriveExport licensing will transition to the “License on file” system starting from January 1st, 2025. After that date, all customers will receive a license file at their next activation or renewal process.
- For using the new “License on file”, users must download and use DriveExport 4.0.0 or higher.
- The GUI version of DriveExport will no longer be available because of low adoption.
For existing users, follow these steps for migrating from the old to the new licensing system:
- Receive your driveexport license file (DriveExportLic-xxxxxxxx.lic) after successfully renewal or on-demand.
- Make a backup of your application and configuration files.
- Download the latest version of DriveExport (4.0.0 or higher)
- Extract the files from zip file and overwrite existing DriveExport.exe
- Place the license file in the same folder of your DriveExport configuration file.
- Run the tool as usual. E.g. driveexport.exe myconfig.xml
- Optional: edit the xml configuration file and remove the entry <LicenseCode> because it is no longer required and will be ignored.
If you are interested in migrating or testing before license renewal, contact us and we will send you the license-file for your existing license.
